Position Summary

 At Scientific Games, we believe remarkable talent, enthusiasm, and creative thinking add up to great work. We’re looking for a creative thinker and passionate storyteller with excellent writing and research skills to help us elevate that work as our full-time, in-house copywriter. 

As a member of the Corporate Marketing & Communications team, our copywriter will write and edit copy for a variety of projects (including print, web, mobile, video, and social media), working closely with the marketing, communications, and creative teams to brainstorm ideas, create concepts, and develop messaging. 

Your thoughtful copy and compelling content will elevate brand messaging to engage and activate stakeholders and audiences across all channels. You will be responsible for driving the brand voice and upholding consistency across channels through tone, style, and content, while also pushing to evolve with the business and customers. 

Essential Job Functions:

  • Compose and streamline copy across all channels to ensure one singular brand voice. Including, but not limited to Company profiles, email, social media, and website
  • Craft engaging copy and storylines that inspire, inform, and entertain to deliver messages to key external and internal audiences
  • Work cross-functionally to Interpret creative briefs to develop and produce creative concepts, to ideate and execute dynamic messaging and content that amplify trending and seasonal topics, brand campaigns, news, and events
  • Continually raise the bar on messaging and creativity, writing fresh copy that connects with the desired audience and drives action
  • Comfortably vary voice, style, and other characteristics demanded by the industry, company, or target audience at hand
  • Working with the Sr. Director Executive Communications, SVP Corporate Marketing & Communications and the Sr. Director, Corporate Communications to:

  • Develop Ideas, that cut-through the media clutter by understanding the individual for whom they write and the communication landscape with:
    • Thought-leadership platforms
    • Conversation frameworks
    • Message frameworks
    • Message audits

  • Express Ideas, that are powerful, compelling, and resonate using:
    • Talking points, speeches and  presentations
    • Opinion essays, written rally cries and communications

  • Amplify Ideas, so the message is heard, and it achieves positive impact with:
    • Coaching, media training, & workshops
    • Strategic scheduling & placement
    • Public-affairs campaigns in partnership with Government Relations

  • Compose messaging and perform research for a range of communications on a number of important topics in a variety of formats, such as:
    • Corp Comms
      • Press Releases
      • Quarterly Town Hall Scripts
      • Speeches
      • Op-eds
      • Leadership Talking Points
      • Internal announcements to Employees

  • Integrated Marketing & Communications Campaigns
    • Print Advertising
    • Online ads and banners
    • Trade show messaging
    • Brand Positioning  
    • Corporate CSR/ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance)
    • Web copy
    • Blog posts
    • Content marketing pieces  
    • Social media content

  • Work closely and collaboratively with other senior leaders and colleagues across the Company’s business groups.
  • Supervise other writing resources, externally. In these instances, you will be prepared to offer thoughtful, constructive input/edits to jointly produce “Exec-ready” work.
  • Edit and proofread copy through all stages of the creative process to ensure clarity, accuracy, and consistency
  • Stay updated on appropriate style guidelines and brand voice for consistency in messaging

Education:  Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, English, Communications, Marketing, or related discipline, preferred.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Minimum 4-5 years professional copywriting experience with solid portfolio of work
  • Exceptional writing and research skill
  • Excellent language proficiency including meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar, in addition to advanced reading comprehension skills.
  • Strong communication skills including alternative ways to inform and entertain via written, oral, and visual media as well as excellent active listening skills.
  • Familiarity with trends in advertising, culture and knowledge of the promotional spectrum are helpful.
  • Thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative environment with a high-volume workload often requiring short turnaround times
  • Ability to work independently and with a team to meet deadlines
  • Excellent organizational skill and multitasking ability

Preferred Qualifications

  • Must be a polished communicator with an action-oriented focus, capable of solving communication challenges, and developing original solutions.
  • Should be a creative thinker with prolific ideas, able to juggle multiple projects under tight deadlines.
  • Social media or content marketing experience a plus
  • Media knowledge including media production, communication, and dissemination techniques and methods.
  • Marketing & sales techniques including knowledge of principles and methods for promoting and selling products or services. Knowledge of marketing strategy and tactics across print and digital is needed along with current trends in product demonstration and sales techniques.
  • Proofreading experience and familiarity with standard style guides a plus
  • A keen eye for detail and appreciation of great design
