Scientific Games Looks to Future Following Successful Tech Conversion for The National Lottery with Partner Allwyn UK

Company’s Momentum Ecosystem Now Powering Allwyn’s Modernized National Lottery Operations in UK

ATLANTA – September 10, 2025 – Scientific Games’ Momentum ecosystem is now powering Allwyn UK’s modernized National Lottery operations and 43,500 retailers across the UK, following the largest technology conversion in global lottery industry history. Completed with Allwyn UK several hours ahead of schedule, the overnight switch from the legacy system marks a major milestone in the Lottery’s fourth license era.

Anchored by Scientific Games’ central lottery gaming system, the Momentum ecosystem encompasses the company’s WAVE family of retail point-of-sales terminals – which are rolling out to retailers across the UK – and a suite of value-add products, including its Gem suite of enterprise, Salesforce, claims and licensing applications. The ecosystem is currently powering lotteries across North America, Europe and Oceania.

A network of more than 43,000 terminals was switched from the legacy system to the new Scientific Games systems, with retailers nationally selling two hours ahead of the planned cut-over schedule. The UK project centered on replacing The National Lottery’s legacy 2009 central gaming system, integrating dozens of systems across multiple suppliers, and converting 43,500 retailer terminals to the new software ahead of the completion of the full WAVE terminal rollout. The conversion also involved a series of complicated data migrations, including the transfer of tens of thousands of retailer records and millions of transactions to the new system. Following the switch, nearly all retailers were able to sell tickets quickly, with any remaining technical needs supported through remote or on-site visits.

The project is the largest technology upgrade for The National Lottery since it launched in 1994 and the largest and most complex technology conversion in the global lottery industry to date. Further upgrades, including those to The National Lottery’s digital offerings, are forthcoming.

Part of Allwyn UK’s bold plans for a modernized National Lottery, the Momentum ecosystem from Scientific Games is powering the Lottery’s sales across the UK to help generate critical funding for Good Causes across the UK. The tech project represents significant work since the November 2023 signing of Scientific Games’ contract to support Allwyn UK in its operation of The National Lottery.

Scientific Games has delivered strategically to support Allwyn’s plans to grow The National Lottery responsibly and minimize environmental impact. Positive momentum began in early 2024 with the on-time opening of Scientific Games’ high-tech, 92,000 square-foot state-of-the-art logistics facility in Warrington, UK to serve The National Lottery’s retailers. The facility was recognized with a Gold Award in the 2025 International Business Awards for Supply Chain Sustainability.
